How does it feel to be living in your new home?
It’s something we’ve wanted for a long time, we’ve probably done it sooner than what we thought we would. So it’s just a really big sense of achievement building our first home.
And we’ve been able to choose everything we want which makes it more homely, and just being able to come home to somewhere we’re paying off and know that there’s no more inspections or calls from the real estate – it’s heart warming.
Yeah massive, now I have to put up with her a bit longer (laughs) It is a big commitment but now we’re paying off our own mortgage instead of some other bloke’s, it’s definitely a big thing.
Did you think building a Martin Locke Home was going to be out of your budget?
That’s definitely what we did, we went into the display homes thinking ‘we can’t afford this’
We had a look through, spoke to Nat and she offered us some brochures and we were like, thanks but it looks far too expensive and out of our league. But then when we finally sat down with the MLH team and we looked through the standard inclusions…we went to a few other builders, compared the standard inclusions and realised that we were getting a lot more for our money …that’s why we chose to build with Martin Locke Homes.
Was the building process stressful?
Nah, it was pretty cruisy actually. Whitney organised most of it so I didn’t really do a hell of a lot but, I think just from the start, how Martin sat down with us and showed us what we were getting and from then on Nat and Tara and the team just made it super simple.
Yeah, just receiving updates and constant communication with the team I think, made me feel a little less stressed. I think Jeremy was less stressed the whole process (laughs) but I needed to know everything and when I had a question I always knew that I could message Tara or Nat and that we could ask Martin what we thought were silly questions during the planning phase.
Was building easier than what you thought?
Yeah definitely, we had no idea what we were going into.
We had no idea where to start and I think that’s what was helpful as well, that Martin showed us through the plans and everything MLH does as a point of difference, even down to the slab and the termite protection – there were things that we had no idea about.
Did MLH’s accessible, step-free design impact your builder choice?
The first thing the removalist said was oh my God there’s a ramp! (laughs) That was something we were told about but we didn’t really take much notice of in the planning phase but then we started comparing MLH with other display homes, walking in and just realising how small the other walkways were and how small the doors were. We’ve realised now, living here, how much easier it is having a big shower, having the big walkways, having the bigger doors.
Would you recommend MLH to other first home buyers?
Yeah definitely, we have mates that have said they want to build up here while they’re posted.
We’ve had a few friends that we’ve said, just go and have a look at Martin’s homes and said to them the display homes might be a little overwhelming and feeling like you can’t afford it but once you compare things with what other builders provide it’s definitely a goer.
